IN THIS LESSON
At Meta, using data to make decisions is essential. This question tests your skills.
In 2025, Meta introduced a new question—on a seemingly experimental basis— as part of its analytical interview without notice or warning. The question was a dramatic departure from the status quo, which included the Success Metrics question as well as the Tradeoffs question. As of now (which at the time of this article’s publication) the question is rarely asked, it is likely going to be asked more in the future, making this question (which we’re calling the Data Driven Decisionmaking or 3D question) one that you will want to prepare for. So let’s get started.
Let’s first start with a real-life example question.
Should meta build a new product that helps local businesses advertise even though we already have a full tech stack for ads?
Some important things to note here:
It’s “full length”. Based on candidate experience, the expectation is that this question will take at least as long as the Success Measurement question, and possibly longer to the extent that it combines Success Measurement and Tradeoffs.
You have to choose. Like the Tradeoff question, the 3D question demands a choice from candidates. Equivocation is not an answer here: if you try to squirm out from under the burden of choice you will look like an indecisive product manager.
It’s more specific. Analytical questions have previously been relatively simple (“how would you measure the success of Zoom for Business”). This question offers greater complexity, with a decision element (“should meta build a new product for local business advertisement”) and a complication (“even though we have a full tech stack for ads”).
In this chapter we’ll go over a framework for addressing this question and walk through it step by step.
