How to Use Product Simply
How to Use Product Simply
Product Simply works best when you use it as a practice system, not just a course.
The lessons give you a way to think about product management and product interviews. But understanding an idea is not the same as being able to use it under pressure. The goal is to move repeatedly between learning, practice, feedback, and improvement.
A useful loop is:
Learn → Practice → Get feedback → Improve → Repeat
Learn the method
Start with the lessons. They explain how to approach the major kinds of product problems you are likely to encounter and, more importantly, the reasoning behind those approaches.
You do not need to memorize scripts or reproduce examples exactly. You are trying to build judgment: to understand what information matters, what choices you need to make, and why.
Practice deliberately
Once you understand an idea, use it.
The practice sections throughout the course give you opportunities to apply what you have learned. Where available, you can also practice directly with Sim, the Product Simply coaching assistant.
Practice is most useful when you have a specific objective. Instead of simply doing another product sense question, you might work on defining a target customer more precisely, explaining your reasoning more clearly, or making a stronger recommendation.
Use Sim between coaching sessions
Sim is available whenever you want to practice or get help.
You can ask Sim to interview you, evaluate an answer, help you work through something you do not understand, or focus a practice session on a particular weakness. Because Sim understands the Product Simply methodology, its feedback can be grounded in the same ideas you are learning in the course.
You can also bring Sim real interview questions, draft answers, or situations you are preparing for and work through them together.
Sim is an AI system and can make mistakes. When a judgment is important or something does not seem right, you can bring the question to MJ for review.
Use real performance as evidence
Reading can give you conceptual understanding and practicing with the coaching assistant can help you hone skills. Only doing an interview in front of another human fully exercises all the capabilities needed to perform well under realistic interview conditions.
Mock interviews and coaching sessions expose things that are difficult to experience otherwise: how you respond to the body language of the other person, how you react when your mind goes blank, and how quickly you're speaking. Your most important weaknesses are likely to come out in the face-to-face setting. When you're ready, find time to work with MJ in person or with another coach or peer.
Review, improve, and repeat
After practice or coaching, identify the most important thing to improve. Return to the relevant lesson if necessary, practice that skill deliberately, and then test it again.
You do not need to fix everything at once. Good preparation, just like product management, is iterative. Each round gives you better evidence about what you can already do and what deserves your attention next.
As you prepare, continue to ask yourself: what should I do next, and why?
